Hi Everyone!
It's gorgeous up here in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas where I live in Northern California. I just returned from a week long trip to South Carolina. I went to meet with my band to play for the Tri-DAC Consortium, which is a Governer's school of the arts.
Very talented students get selected, after they audition, to be in this 3 week long program where they do a more in-depth study of music, theater, visual arts, and dance. The students are pre high-school students who are very talented and open. My band and I were invited by the heads of the program, and we were so blessed to have had the opportunity to play in front of 500 students, the staff, and a good number of people from my parents' church. It was such a cool experience, to say the least.
We didn't know what to expect coming in to this, and we were really excited to play such a great and unique gig. Not only was it an amazing opportunity and experience for us..... the students and staff also got a unique experience and some different culture. It was such a blessing to be able to play our music with so many open minds and open hearts. The students were incredibly receptive to our band and the music that we played, and they sang and chanted with us.
We did a workshop afterwards to share some of our perspective with the students. It was so fun!!!! There was a part of the workshop when Craig and Anthony played drums and bass for us all to dance! It was so cool. The children had a blast, we had a blast, and it was one of the most unique concerts that we have ever given as a band. It was also really cool to be able to hang out with my parents and brother the whole time. That was the icing on the cake!
Now we are off to the LA area to play a few gigs the weekend of August 12th, 13th, and 14th. Then we start playing again on the 20th of August, and we go through the New Year! Please stay posted for many more events that will be posted on the events page of the website. I'll keep you posted!
Blessings, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
Love Always,
Simrit
