Hi Everyone,
Greetings from the beautiful foothills of the Sierra Nevada's. I absolutely LOVE where we live. Not only are the vibes really nice with so much culture and diversity here, but the landscape is simply gorgeous. The weather is really nice right now as well. As I was on a walk with my 5 year old son today, Siri Amrit, I was really appreciating the deep bond that we share, and the deep understanding and respect that we naturally experience for each other. It goes with out saying with us. We are two peas in a pod. I really love listening to him talk about his life and his perceptions of life. He has so many unique experiences to share with me that teach me so much about being real....being authentic, and therefore being happy with what is.
As I study other musicians and music that inspire me, I see the same thread throughout all of them.......authenticity. They seem to keep it real. The music is such an authentic expression of their creativity and connection. As the years go by, I experience that there is so much music out there that is so homogenized. The music that, in my opinion, is "watered down" does not penetrate and is like noise that just goes by. It doesn't do anything or move anything. I have never understood making art that is dictated by rules and regulations and other peoples opinions. I can't even fathom that some artists have authoritative personel who actually dictate what the artists is and isn't allowed to do, what to make, how to make it, what to insert where, to take certain sounds out, to produce so much in a certain amount of time...resulting in that homogenized sound.
I was listening to a very unique singer/songwriter today named Joanna Newsom. Not only does she play harp, piano, and other instruments....she has quite a unique voice.... I really appreciate her uniqueness. It is highly inspiring and motivating. She comes from the same little town in California where I live with my family, Nevada City. She has made it by staying true to her unique talents and staying committed to her personal creativity, her expression. I saw a video where many people in the audience on her first national television debut were laughing and pointing fingers at her, and yet she kept doing her unique thing over the years, and now is a world-renowned and recognized artist.
I believe that it is by being authentic and staying true to our unique expression that we serve each other in the highest way. It is why we are here on this Earth, in my opinion. There really is no other reason. So I really want to thank my son for constantly reminding me to be myself. And I would like to share my gratitude for all the artists out there who are doing their thing, whatever art form it may be.
Thank you for your inspiration.
Blessings,
Simrit
