Anthony Molina is a musician, composer, producer, dee jay and a member of the famed rock band, Mercury Rev.  His diverse musical background spans from receiving high honors in classical piano to playing sold out arenas and concert tours around the world.  Anthony is also a yogi of great depth who is touring with Simrit and has provided an invaluable contribution to the live sound and concert presence.

Anthony was born in New York in 1976 to Puerto Rican parents & attended a bi-lingual church (Spanish & English) where his father was the Minister. He studied music in school but it was playing saxophone in the church that developed his keen ear and ability to improvise and compose. It was during this time where developed an early appreciation for black gospel and jazz music.Anthony Molina

Only a few years later Anthony and his brother Jason formed a band and soon after at age 14 booked their 1st gig. Later that year he was asked to play a Jazz gig on saxophone with then Mercury Rev bassist Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Jane’s Addiction, MGMT). They became friends & Molina would (and still does) credit Dave as his special mentor.

In his later teens he would formally study Classical Piano with Colombian couple Pilar Leyva (youngest musician to perform at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and student of Claudio Arrau) and her husband Jorge Zorro Sanchez (student of Leonard Bernstein).  He studied performance with Pilar and composition and theory with Mr. Zorro-Sanchez. He would later enroll in the RCM Examinations certificate Program of The Royal Conservatory of Music Toronto where he scored high honors in Piano.

It was a phone call from Dave Fridmann that led Anthony to be invited to play Keyboards and Theremin on a world tour with Catskill, NY based-band Mercury Rev. He would subsequently join the band writing, recording, touring the globe. This led Molina to move to the Catskills in Upstate, New York where where he discovered his Yoga Practice. “Music and Yoga both allow me to express the inexpressible.“ Molina’s love for the studio has also led him to continue to Compose & now Produce, Remix as well as Dee Jay.
